as a result of water being poured on me this morning

freek is scared
and well he should be
you'll get your comeuppance
when you least expect it

queens day

26 years old, visiting Amsterdam for the first time.
"Don't smoke too much" her co-worker warned.
Laughing, she replied, "I don't smoke, don't worry."
A few space cakes later, head in a bucket full of her own vomit, she decides this would be a first and a last experience.
"I'm supposed to be meeting some friends at Leidseplein right now"
"I also" says Matthieu
"Me too" I add
Her friend on the couch moans in agony, "Oh God, make me feel better. God, help me!"
I wonder if she realizes God is already helping her...if it weren't for God this hostel wouldn't be here, these people wouldn't be here. The situation could be a lot worse.
A guest walking by remarks "You make a good nurse"
I shrug, knowing I'm not doing much. Matthieu and Freek got a new mattress and removed the filthy sheets. I stroke her hair until sleep claims her.
The irony? She works for a company called "Dope-free sports"

vacation!!!

My bro is here! yay hooray!
and bright and early tomorrow morning, we are taking off for Geneva...by the end of the day we'll be with Sara in Marseilles.
After a few days in the south of France we're going up to Paris, and from there we're going to Athens. I'll struggle through my jealousy of my brother and his instant tan, and hopefully I'll return to Amsterdam with a little colour, preferably not pink.
So that's a vague outline of our trip...be back in a little over a week!

He is risen indeed

Christ, the Lord, is risen today, Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth, reply, Alleluia!

Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Lo! the Sun’s eclipse is over, Alleluia!
Lo! He sets in blood no more, Alleluia!

Vain the stone, the watch, the seal, Alleluia!
Christ hath burst the gates of hell, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids His rise, Alleluia!
Christ hath opened paradise, Alleluia!

Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Once He died our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!

Soar we now where Christ hath led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!

Hail, the Lord of earth and Heaven, Alleluia!
Praise to Thee by both be given, Alleluia!
Thee we greet triumphant now, Alleluia!
Hail, the resurrection, thou, Alleluia!

King of glory, Soul of bliss, Alleluia!
Everlasting life is this, Alleluia!
Thee to know, Thy power to prove, Alleluia!
Thus to sing and thus to love, Alleluia!

Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia!
Unto Christ, our heavenly King, Alleluia!
Who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia!
Sinners to redeem and save. Alleluia!

But the pains that He endured, Alleluia!
Our salvation have procured, Alleluia!
Now above the sky He’s King, Alleluia!
Where the angels ever sing. Alleluia!

Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia!
Our triumphant holy day, Alleluia!
Who did once upon the cross, Alleluia!
Suffer to redeem our loss. Alleluia!

God is

God is
The Lord your God is a consuming fire
God is
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands.
God is
For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.
God is
My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold my refuge and my saviour.
God is
God is exalted in his power. Who is a teacher like him?
God is
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
God is
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its water roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
God is
For God is the King of all the earth; sing to him a psalm of praise.
God is
Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
God is
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favour and honour; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.
God is
The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.
God is
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
God is
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
God is
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.
God is
There is a redeemer
Jesus, God's own Son
Precious Lamb of God, Messiah,
Holy One

Jesus my redeemer
Name above all names
Precious Lamb of God, Messiah,
Oh for sinners slain

Thank You, Oh my Father
For giving us Your Son
And leaving Your Spirit 'til
The work on earth is done

When I stand in glory
I will see His face
There I'll serve my King forever
In that Holy place

hallelujah!

How is it that when God answers prayer, it's sometimes hard to believe it?
The other day Pauline said to me, "Ben became a Christian!" and I said, "Are you sure? He believes in Jesus and God?" and she said, "Yes! He's a Christian!"
I ashamed to say that I needed to clarify, because this is something I knew would happen. Praise the Lord that it happened so soon!

french

I was just telling Matthieu the story of when I told Josh to "fermez la bouche" and he threw me in the snow and sat on me. Matthieu told me, "at least you didn't say" whatever "shut up" is in French, but the whole cafe is full of French people and they thought he said it to me. There were a few dropped jaws, but I was laughing, and so was Matthieu, but he was also really embarrassed. I had to tell them a couple times it was ok, he didn't really say it to me. Next time he'll teach me French when there aren't other French speakers around.

long time no blog...

I know, I know, I haven't blogged in a while. Sorry!
Let's see...what has been happening?
Last Friday we had French Night and we served crepes and did a French quiz and Matthieu shared his testimony...it was so cool, though. I got to talk to a couple of girls about faith and God and stuff. God just blessed our conversation. The girls had a lot of questions, and were so open to listen. So cool.
Saturday Tina and I went with Marco to Monnickendam and Volendam. It was so nice to get away from Amsterdam for a bit and see the "real" Netherlands. We even had haring (pictures are posted here) which I didn't mind, but Tina definitely found disgusting.
Monday I went hitchhiking! with Josh to Antwerp. It was quite fun. Our first ride took us all the way downtown. We ate Belgian waffles and fries, went to the church and the castle, and returned home. I think we got 16 points for riding with a cop. He was nice, but not super talkative. The last guy we rode with was really nice, but his grandson...not so much. There was a big language barrier, but it was cool.
So yeah, that's a brief update of what's been going on with me.
